Good news! Neon, a new playable Filipina character, is coming soon to the tactical shooter game Valorant.
The video game revealed that its newest agent or playable character hails from the Philippines in a video titled “Spark” on January 6, 2022 (Manila time).
Named Neon, the character was introduced as a Manila-born agent and duelist with electrical abilities in the game’s cinematic trailer.
The character was voiced by Filipino voice actress Vanille Velasquez who excitedly announced the news to her fans on Twitter as the trailer dropped on Thursday.
“I am unbelievably honored, stoked and PROUD AF to announce that I am the voice of VALORANT Agent 19 NEON!” Velasquez wrote in a Twitter post.
“This has been such a dream come true. I’m kind of at a loss right now. This doesn’t feel real. I can’t believe I’m really saying this right now,” Velasquez added.

The video features animation and gameplay footage, as well as the music track “Entertain Me” by Filipino-Australian singer-songwriter Ylona Garcia & 88rising.
Netizens and Valorant fans welcomed the Filipino representation in the game and pointed out the references to Pinoy culture in the trailer.
The Manila-born agent speaks Tagalog throughout the video. She says “Hay buhay!” as she lays on her bed and “Kontrolado ko ‘to!” as she unleashes her powers. She also calls her Filipino parents in the video.
Neon feels SO familiar to me. She speaks Tagalog & English, she calls her family overseas. She collects cute plushies, jams out, and decorates her room to look like the Philippines beaches. Like home.

Neon’s room is decorated with a picture of a beach. She also seems to have a framed picture of her pet “aspin.”
Neon is a basketball fan. She also has a “Pilipinas” jersey hanging on the wall.
Neon listens to Ylona Garcia’s newest track “Entertain Me” which the singer-songwriter released in partnership with the tactical shooter game. She also has a poster of Garcia on her wall.

I find this big for Filipinos as we never really got any representation in the video game space before and here we are pic.twitter.com/veHyurCCfC
