The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is encouraging candidates in the upcoming May 2025 national midterm elections to use environmentally friendly campaign materials. The poll body highlights the importance of sustainability in election propaganda to reduce environmental harm.

Learn how 2025 election candidates are embracing eco-friendly campaigns with sustainable materials and green initiatives to reduce environmental impact.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 11086, political candidates and parties are advised to adopt eco-friendly alternatives, including:

  • Reusable food and beverage containers for campaign activities.
  • Energy-efficient lighting for sound systems at rallies.
  • Biodegradable and reusable banners instead of traditional tarpaulins.
  • Electric or hybrid vehicles for motorcades, subject to Comelec regulations.
  • LED billboards and digital platforms to minimize physical waste.
  • Locally sourced sustainable materials like natural fibers, recycled paper, and biodegradable plastics.

Comelec also announced plans to launch EcoWaste Coalition measures this week to promote proper environmental practices in election campaigns.

“This means that it is not just about employing campaign materials, but also about using materials that are not harmful to the environment,” Comelec stated.
