The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines is allocating 674 teaching positions for Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholar-graduates who will start their service by August 2021 or before the opening of classes.
The new teachers are scholar-graduates of the DOST – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).
DOST scholars across the country and overseas take up graduate, undergraduate, and science high school studies.
The DOST scholar-graduates are being hired in compliance with Republic Act 10612 or the Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013 which supports the implementation of the K-12 law by developing a pool of scholar-graduates who can competently teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the secondary education, particularly in senior high school and ideally in their respective home regions.
The DepEd job placement of the scholar-graduates in Special Science Teacher I (SST I) positions is under the condition that the new teachers must pass the LET within the first five (5) years if they opt to continue teaching in DepEd after fulfilling their service obligation.
DepEd had previously created 3,319 Special Science Teacher I (SST I) positions for the graduates of the Junior Level Science Scholarship under RA 10612.
