Filipina composer Denise Santos has won an Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition in the 42nd annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

Santos was honored alongside fellow composer Adam Lukas for their work on the BBC documentary series “Primates”, which was announced among this year’s Emmy winners on September 28, 2021.

A BBC Studios production for PBS and BBC, “Primates” is a natural history documentary series scored by Lukas and Santos of Bleeding Fingers Studios, a joint venture music production company between noted score composer Hans Zimmer and Sony Music.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Denise Santos is an Emmy-winning film and TV composer who started her professional music career in 2012 playing keyboard for an alternative-jazz band Hidden Nikki and post-rock band, Bones Like Snowflakes.

The Los Angeles-based Santos has written and released original music for films such as Baka Bukas and Billie and Emma by Samantha Lee, Eden: Untamed Planet (BBC America), Primates (BBC One/PBS), Death Saved My Life (Lifetime), Apollo: The Forgotten Films (Discovery), and Surviving Jeffrey Epstein (Lifetime), among others.

The 42nd Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards are presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) to promote excellence in broadcast journalism and honored more than 2200 submissions that originally premiered last year.

Filipino-American producer Roxanne Paredes of the hit Hollywood series “Mr. Robot” bagged the prestigious Creative Arts Emmy in the 72nd virtual Emmy Awards last year.

The multi-awarded “Jake and Charice” documentary was a finalist in the 2020 International Emmy Awards.

The Philippines’ acclaimed Gameboys web series has now been nominated in this year’s edition of the International Emmy Kids Awards.
