The Philippines will be tweeting Solar Messages of Hope to the 26th Climate Change Conference (COP26) set to be held in Glasgow in November 2021.
The Solar Messages of Hope are large-scale installations using solar lamps of the award-winning Light it Forward campaign of the Liter of Light, the Filipino-born global grassroots movement that donates solar lights to remote communities without electrical power.
The Twitter project is the 2021 edition of the Good Light Messages of Hope series of the Liter of Light and GoodNewsPilipinas.com which crafted over 30 solar installations out of inspiring messages from Filipinos while the country was under lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
The solar installations series has been featured as an inspiring project on various media groups including CNN’s Rico Hizon and the Department of Tourism.
Prior to the Messages of Hope to COP26, the Liter of Light has been lighting up large-scale solar installations around the Philippines to call for Filipinos to be climate heroes. More recently, the pop-up solar artworks have brandished the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) logos including clean energy.
The Liter of Light, the Philippines’ representatives to the COP26 scheduled for November 1-12 in the United Kingdom, is encouraging Filipinos to join the cause of finding solutions to address climate change by sending Messages of Hope that the team will craft into solar billboards and posted on Twitter as Human Powered Messages for COP26.
Here’s How to Send Your Messages of Hope to be Made Into Large-Scale Solar Installations:
WE WANT YOUR HELP TO MAKE THE LARGEST MESSAGES OF HOPE IN THE WORLD
We started in our driveway, and now we want to scale it a thousand times bigger. We want your help to inspire others!
Building on the success of our award-winning Light It Forward campaign, Liter of Light is launching its newest project: Human-Powered Messages of Hope.
We want you to send us your Twitter-style messages that we will turn into large solar-powered billboards to share your hopes and dreams for the future.
We will be taking over village parks, helicopter pads, and public parks to share your Messages of Hope.
How does it work?
Simple – all you need to do is:
- Come up with your Twitter-sized message*, then
- Share your message with us by tagging us on Instagram @literoflight, Facebook (https://ift.tt/UIps92), or Twitter (@MessagesToCOP26)
- Make sure to include the hashtags #MessagesofHope #TwitterforGood #MessagesToCOP26
*Each message will work like Twitter – you can make your message with up to 212 characters, but we computed that most messages will be about 35 characters long.
We will choose a message each week and install them in key areas of the cities and communities where we live.
Because of existing health and safety protocols, all of the Messages of Hope will be built with ONLY 3-10 adult artists using our hand-built solar lights. The public will not be allowed in the actual venues.
The installations can be viewed online through videos taken by a drone.
We feel that with everything that is going on in the world, we all could use some good vibes.
Stay tuned to learn which message we will unveil each week – we want you to interact with us and share how you contributed to our human-powered messages of hope.
