The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging Filipinos to prioritize safety this holiday season and has assured citizens of its improved emergency response system, enabling first responders to arrive at the scene within 3-5 minutes after dialing 911.

Police Brigadier General Warren Gaspar Tolito, Director of the PNP Communications and Electronics Services, highlighted the increased risks of accidents and emergencies during the busy holidays. “The holiday season is a merry and busy season, but it is a challenging time for emergency call takers and responders,” he said, citing drunk driving, electrical overloads, and overindulgence as common causes of incidents.

The PNP’s enhanced 911 Call Handling System, powered by cutting-edge technology from the United States, enables emergency teams to accurately pinpoint locations and provide rapid assistance. “Citizens must remember only one number to dial – 911 – on their cellphones or landlines, then press 1,” General Tolito explained.

Responders are trained to handle various emergencies, including vehicular accidents, medical crises, public disturbances, domestic violence, robbery, and theft. The PNP official advised, “Tell the person who answers what’s wrong, then share your name and location. The call handling technology will already be able to catch the contact details and pinpoint the exact location.

He added, “If reporting a crime in progress, try to observe and gather as many details as possible: number of suspects involved, clothes worn, gender, hair length, and any vehicle details like make, color, or license plate.

To prevent incidents, the PNP Communications and Electronics Services Director advised the public to secure homes and vehicles, avoid overloading electrical systems, and exercise caution during celebrations.

At the first sign of trouble, the PNP official reminded, “Call 911, then press 1. We answer almost all of our calls within 1 minute and will be ready to respond and ensure that your holidays are safe and enjoyable.

Ensure your safety this holiday season by remembering to dial 911 for any emergencies. Spread the word and share this vital information to keep your loved ones safe!
