Philippine Science High School (PSHS/Pisay) students are advancing to the International Geography Olympiad (iGEO) 2023 in Bandung, Indonesia, after topping the International Geographical Union – recognized national geography competition among Filipino students.

Four students from PSHS – Central Visayas Campus, PSHS – Central Luzon Campus, and PSHS – Caraga Region Campus, along with one student from De La Salle University Integrated School, emerged as the winners of the 12th Philippine Geography Olympiad (PGO) held from February 3-5, but only the Pisay students are representing the country in the world competition.

Ryan Abigan from the DLSU Integrated School was declared this year’s champion of the largest nationwide inter-high school geography quiz bee presented by the Geographic Society of the University of the Philippines (UP GeogSoc) but was deemed ineligible to compete in the world edition after reaching the maximum number of two iGEO participation. Abigan was in the Philippine delegation and won medals at the iGeo 2021 and iGeo 2022.

The next four runner-up winners of the PGO 12 were tasked to participate in the international round of the competition for the best 16 to 19-year-old geography students from all over the world.

Here are the Philippines’ official delegates to the iGEO 2023 scheduled from August 8 to 14 in Indonesia:

  • PGO 12 1ST RUNNER-UP, Andrei Nicolei F. Uy, PSHS – Central Visayas Campus
  • PGO 12 2ND RUNNER-UP, John Anton Benedict G. Garcia, PSHS – Central Luzon Campus
  • PGO 12 3RD RUNNER-UP, Ambrose James G. Torreon, PSHS – Caraga Region Campus
