The Philippines’ lumpiang shanghai ranks as the World’s No. 2 Best Street Food in the newest audience ratings released by TasteAtlas today.

The experiential travel guide’s 50 Best Street Foods ranking posted on social media on September 28, 2022, placed lumpiang shanghai just behind Malaysia’s flatbread Roti Canai and just ahead of Japan’s Karaage.

TasteAtlas describes the Lumpiang Shanghai as “the most popular variety of lumpia, the crispy deep-fried Filipino snack that evolved from Chinese spring rolls. Even though lumpia appears in numerous variations, the Shanghai version is characterized by a savory filling which combines ground pork or beef with carrots, onions, various seasonings, and (occasionally) shrimps.”

Lumpiang Shanghai is sold as a snack at street stalls throughout the country and is also a staple dish served on special occasions and fiestas.

The Filipino snack can be eaten with a sweet and sour dipping sauce, catsup, or mayonnaise.

TasteAtlas recently listed 5 versions of the Philippines’ pancit in the 50 Best Noodle Dishes world ranking. The travel site also named Sinigang, a sour soup native to the Philippines, the World’s No. 1 vegetable soup.
