Three students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Main Campus, Victory Christian International School (VCIS), and Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) in Metro Manila emerged as the winners of the 24th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO).
The winners will be part of the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Camp, the next stage towards being part of the pool of the country representatives to the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to be held in Oslo, Norway, this July 2022.
Pisay student Raphael Dylan T. Dalida, who represented the Philippines and won a silver medal at last year’s International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), led this year’s winners and emerged as the champion of the nationwide mathematics competition presented by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute. Dalida received PhP25,000 along with a medal, trophy, and certificate.
Filbert Ephraim S. Wu of the Victory Christian International School (VCIS), who reaped a silver medal at last year’s Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO), was declared the first runner-up winner with a prize of PhP20,000 along with a medal, trophy, and certificate.
Jerome Austin N. Te of the Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) won the second runner-up prize of PhP15,000 along with a medal, trophy, and certificate and also won a special award in the event.
The winning students’ coaches also received cash prizes while their schools received the trophies.
The three winners bested 29 other student finalists in the national finals of the event held virtually from March 18 to 19, 2022.

Last year, Grace Christian College (GCC) claimed a 3-peat win at the Philippine Mathematical Olympiad.
The Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) is the oldest and most prestigious nationwide mathematics competition among secondary school students. It is the breeding ground for the country’s representatives to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Every year, countries participating in the IMO send six representatives for the annual world championship mathematics competition for high school students.
Last year, Team Philippines bagged four silver medals and two bronze medals in the 62nd International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) organized in St. Petersburg, Russia.
