From janitor to cosmetics manufacturer with over 600 employees.

A former janitor was able to change his life by starting a cosmetic manufacturing company.

Many prospective entrepreneurs have been motivated by Henry and Apple Raca’s narrative to keep working hard to attain their goals. The C and H Cosmetic Industry, which produces a variety of beauty soaps and other cosmetic goods, is owned by the couple. They employ about 600 people in total around the world.

Henry was born into a poor household and worked as a janitor for a pesticide company. He had huge ambitions and was able to get his schooling degree. Henry met Apple while working as a sales agent, and she was struck by his dedication and determination in life.

“Masikhay po talaga siya sa buhay,” Apple said during an interview with Pep.

When the couple finally married, they intended to start a small business right away. The pair began creating their own whitening soap with the P5,000 they received as a wedding gift.

The pair understood the value of client happiness in their little business. To ensure that their beauty soaps were safe for everyone, they recruited a chemist and employed natural ingredients. They were able to receive permission from the Food and Drug Administration after obtaining their permits.

Every aspiring entrepreneur must overcome the challenge of marketing their products. “Mahirap pong mag-introduce ng bagong product sa market,” Appple recalled. “Noong una, dahil hindi naman daw kilala ang aming sabon, wala halos tindahan na tumatanggap sa amin.”

Apple and Henry, on the other hand, did not lose up, personally going out into the streets to hand out brochures and samples. As sales agents, they used their marketing skills to make arrangements with store owners.

“Pumupuwesto po kami sa harap ng mga tindahan,” Apple stated. If may benta kami, yung tubo ay sa kanila na para lang payagan kami, sinasabi namin sa may-ari. “My pag-uumpisang mag-asawa is sobrang hirap.”

The couple received the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) CALABARZON Best Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Adaptor for excellent invention as a result of their continuing hard work.

The couple’s business was able to increase its regional channel distribution as a result of this. They also began to have distributors in over 15 countries around the world.

“Nakatulong po yung GMP [good manufacturing practice] na ibinigay sa amin ng FDA, at may halal certification po kami na local at international for our Muslim brothers and sisters,” Apple explained.

“Mula po sa kakaunting production, umabot kami sa 40,000 to 50,000 ang daily production,” she added.
