Acclaimed Filipino director Arvin Belarmino has been chosen to participate in the prestigious Cannes Festival Cinéfondation’s upcoming Residence Program.

The multi-award-winning filmmaker from Cavite was selected to be one of the 12 foreign directors The Résidence du Festival welcomes every year in Paris to work there on their fictional feature film project.

Belarmino, who gave the Philippines its 1st Best Film award from the Oscars’ qualifying Interfilm Berlin-Brandenburg Film Festival, will have his film project “RIA” as part of the 44th Cinefoundation – Residence du Festival Programme of the Festival de Cannes from March 1 to July 15, 2022.

The Filipino filmmaker underwent a selection process for candidates based on the quality of their already made shorts – or first feature film, as well as on the interest of the feature film project in development, and on the candidates’ motivation.

The Residence will provide a personalized program to guide Belarmino, as well as the other participating directors, in developing his film script and aiding its production. A program of forums with film industry professionals is also part of the mentoring.

The residents also benefit from:

  • a 800-euro grant per month
  • free access to a large number Paris cinemas
  • French lessons (optional)
  • the possibility of attending festivals during their stay
