Iloilo short film wins Extreme Scream Award in Berlin Halloween fest

Iloilo filmmaker Elvert Bañares’ new short-film “Ang May Akda: Ikatlong Yugto” (The Author: Chapter Three) has bagged the Extreme Scream Award in the Halloween Edition of the Berlin Flash Film Festival.

The Filipino film was declared one of the Scream Fest winners of the online festival for October 2021.

“Ang May Akda: Ikatlong Yugto” is the third and last part of the “Ang May Akda” trilogy by Bañares, the founder of CineKasimanwa film festival and Sandaan sa Visayas Festival Director.

The short film was shot entirely by Bañares on a smartphone in his hometown, Iloilo City, together with filmmakers Kyle Fermindoza and Aaron Dave Escobido, who were also co-actors in the film.

The Visayas film director took to social media to announce the film’s newest achievement after its recent participation in international film festivals.

“Our micro-film “Ang May Akda: Ikatlong Yugto” (The Author: Chapter Three) wins Extreme Scream Award for Scream Fest (Halloween Edition) of the Berlin Flash Film Festival 2021 (after competing in Canada and Denmark)!” Elvert Bañares wrote in a Facebook post.

“Ang May Akda: Ikatlong Yugto” will have its international premiere in the Copenhagen Web Fest in Denmark this November, after competing at the Couch Film Festival in Canada this year, where it was nominated for Best Cast.

The Berlin Flash Film Festival is a monthly, online film festival that celebrates Micro Short, Super Short, Long Short, Extra Long Short, Feature films and scripts in various genres.

Bañares’ short film “No Flower in the Afternoon” earlier bagged a Best Cinematography nomination from the Alternative Film Festival (AltFF) Canada in 2019.
