BREAKING NEWS: The Philippines’ world pool champions Dennis Orcollo and Carlo Biado are playing in the top 4 matches on the final day of the 2021 US Open Pool Championship, opening the possibility of an all-Filipino 9-Ball Tour final in the Atlantic City event.
Orcollo and Biado are keeping the country’s flag flying proudly in the prestigious tournament as Filipinos continue to rule the US Open after winning their respective matches in the quarterfinals played Friday night (Saturday morning Philippine Standard Time).
Four members of Team Philippines first cleared the preliminary rounds in a field of the world’s 256 professional pool players to reach the top 16 knockout matches on Thursday (Friday morning PST).
Orcollo and Biado together with countrymen Rodrigo Geronimo and Johann Gonzales Chua reached the top 16 and afterward won their respective matches later in the day to barge into the quarterfinals, making a strong statement as the Filipinos comprised half of the final 8 pool.
The US Open on Matchroom Pool praised the Filipino players exclaiming, “These boys can play. Half of the remaining field is Filipino! What a hotbed of talent they possess.”
