NBA’s Filipino coach Jimmy Alapag joins G League’s Stockton Kings

Filipino coach Jimmy Alapag is joining the National Basketball Association (NBA) G League’s Stockton Kings, the affiliate of Sacramento Kings in the official minor league of the NBA.

Alapag was an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings and helped the team win the NBA Summer League title in Las Vegas.

Jimmy Alapag, the former Gilas Pilipinas captain and head coach of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) San Miguel Alab, joined the coaching staff of the NBA G League team under head coach Bobby Jackson.

The Stockton Kings announced the news on its website and social media on August 23, 2021.

Jimmy Alapag shared about his move on social media and said he was grateful for the new opportunity.

Filipino American coach Erik Spoelstra was voted NBA Best Coach in 2020 while Mike Magpayo, won the Joe B. Hall award this year as the best first-year head coach in Division I college basketball of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) after his historic first win in the league.
