Bicol science and technology academic sector gets boost from STARBOOKS tech

DOST’s STARBOOKS library has come to Bicol Science and Technology Centrum.

The Bicol science and technology academic sector is getting a boost from Science and Technology Academic Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

STARBOOKS is the first stand-alone Philippine digital science library that can be accessed by students and teachers without using an internet connection. The library is celebrating its 10th year with a Quill Award and has also released its mobile app version.

The turnover of STARBOOKS is part of the initiative called Revitalization and Improvement of the Bicol Science and Technology Centrum.

DOST Region V turned over two (2) Desktop PCs and kiosks for the STARBOOKS server and terminal through the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Camarines Sur and in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Naga City.

Patrocinio N. Felizmenio, Provincial S&T director of PSTC Camarines Sur (CamSur), and other local officials received the STARBOOKS equipment in a turnover ceremony on August 10, 2021.

Jemmary C. Barrameda, Project Technical Assistant I and the STARBOOKS Deployment Officer of PSTC CamSur, gave a brief discussion of the following:

  1. Stipulations of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
  2. Orientation on STARBOOKS
  3. Hands-on Training on how to operate STARBOOKS.
