Have a look at the Philippines’ “Time” sculpture by Fil-Am artist Jefrë which overlooks EDSA and reminds Filipinos of the value of time.

The 12-meter-tall metallic sculpture designed by renowned Filipino-American public artist Jefrë Manuel was unveiled in front of SM Megamall along EDSA Highway in Metro Manila on July 29, 2021.

The “Time” sculpture, the latest art collaboration between the Fil-Am artist and SM Supermalls, is a towering statue that depicts a man staring at his wristwatch to remind the public of the value of time.

The giant sculptural masterpiece made of mirror stainless steel is one of the world’s largest installations of Jefrë’s “Baks” Series, his first signature work. The artist named the series for the phonetic pronunciation of the word “box” in American English.

During the unveiling ceremony of the “Time” sculpture in SM Megamall, Jefrë said in his virtual interview with host Issa Litton that his work talks about the idea of time “as something that’s very precious in all of our lives” and hopes that people can reflect on its value when passing the sculpture along EDSA.

TIME can be seen from EDSA Highway in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila.

Known for his large-scale public art installations, Jefrë has already showcased artworks in London, Abu Dhabi, and different parts of the United States.

The artist also debuted with his first solo museum exhibition “Points of Connection” last year at the Orlando Museum of Art.

Some of Jefrë’s permanent sculptures in the Philippines include the “Tree of Life” in Robinsons Place Naga and the “Sculpture” series at SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City, among others.

Jefrë is behind the world’s tallest heart sculpture set to rise in the community of Port St. Lucie in Florida, U.S.A. by 2022.

Filipino artists showcasing large-scale artworks include Filipino-British mural artist Pio Abad whose public commission mural artworks are permanently displayed on London roads and Cordilleran sculptor Gilbert “Bergano” Alberto whose “The Golden Blood” monument in Baguio City pays tribute to essential workers.
