Volleyball star Jaja Santiago is returning to her Japan V. League duty as an import after having led Chery Tiggo Crossovers to win the Open Conference of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), the first pro volleyball league of the Philippines.

Santiago came back to the Philippines on a break from Saitama Ageo Medics to play for the country’s first volleyball professional league tournament held in the Ilocos sports bubble from July to August 2021.

Chery Tiggo won the 2021 PVL Open Conference crown against the Alyssa Valdez-led Creamline in a sudden death match, 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8, at the PCV Socio Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra on August 13.

Jaja Santiago was awarded Most Valuable Player for both the PVL Open Conference and the Finals after leading the Crossovers to its second seed standing during the elimination round and through the finals matches.

The Cavite-born 6-foot-5 blocker was reported by PVL as the league leader in spikes at 122 on a 49.8-percent success rate, third in blocks with 23, and tops in the aces department with 18. In the three-game finals, Santiago averaged 25.3 points per game.

Jaja Santiago holds the distinction of being the first Filipino import in the Japan V. League to win the Japan V. Cup in 2021.

The 25-year-old volleyball star player from the National University and the Philippine National Women’s Volleyball Team joined the Japanese league’s Saitama Ageo Medics in 2018.
