The University of the Philippines Mindanao – Philippine Genome Center (UPMin PGC) is working with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI to set up a Molecular Laboratory for COVID-19 tests in Davao de Oro.
The Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital (DDOPH) – Montevista Molecular Laboratory serves as a rapid medical and public health response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Davao de Oro and neighboring provinces.
The facility is also considered as an Extension Laboratory of UP Mindanao-PGC for the conduct of collaborative research and development activities such as the program for post-COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious disease surveillance and research.
DOST XI supported the establishment of DDOPH-Montevista Molecular Laboratory through funding support to facilitate the capacity development program for the medical/laboratory personnel with the technical guidance of UPMin-PGC. Meanwhile, the PLGU was able to fund the establishment of the facility thru the Bayanihan Heal as One Grant to the provinces from the national government.
At present, the DDOPH Molecular Laboratory is the latest DOH-accredited laboratory to perform reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests for COVID-19 in Davao Region.
Since it was officially opened on March 5, 2021, the facility already accepts testing of the COVID-19 suspected cases in the province and also accommodates walk-in clients who need swab tests.
The UP Philippine Genome Center has been instrumental in the development of the country’s first COVID-19 test kit.
SEND WELL WISHES in the comments below to UP Mindanao Philippine Genome Center, DOST, and the people of Davao de Oro for the establishment of the new molecular lab for COVID-19 tests.
