World champion gymnast Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo copped the bronze medal at the All Japan Apparatus Championships, bolstering his preparations for the Tokyo Olympics in July.
The 21-year-old Filipino athlete finished in third place with 14.966 points in the men’s parallel bars event held in Gunma, Japan on June 6, 2021.
“What a blessing. Being able to play with the bests is already an achievement for me,” Carlos Yulo wrote on his Instagram account.
“It was a pretty good performance…but unfortunately, I didn’t reach my personal target score. I’ll definitely be using this experience to improve on my skills for future event,” he added.
Carlos Yulo became the Philippines’ second athlete to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics with his historic first Philippine win at the 2019 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
The champion gymnast earlier bagged two bronzes in the 74th All-Japan Gymnastics Championships, while staying atop the 2020 International Gymnastics Federation’s (FIG) World Rankings in the floor exercise.
