Philippines’ Alex Eala climbs 53 notches to World Pro Tennis Women’s Top 700

The Philippines’ Alexandra “Alex” Eala has climbed up 53 notches to join the ranks of the World Tennis Association (WTA) Professional Women’s Top 700 following her strong performance at the W60 Bellinzona tournament.

The Filipino teen tennis champion is now ranked #662 in the latest WTA rankings released April 12, 2021, up from her #715 spot prior to her joining the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s Tour in Switzerland where she reached Round 3.

The 15-year-old Eala bested World top players Margot Yerolymos (WTA #323) of France in her debut match and Laura-Ioana Paar (WTA #206) of Romania in Round 2 before bowing out of the tournament in her third-round match against Switzerland’s Simona Waltert (WTA #284).

The Filipino athlete previously ranked 763rd in the WTA Rankings released February 22, 2021, zooming up from her 942nd spot as she entered the Top 1000 list on February 1st, following her W15 Manacor Championship win in January.

“Step by step,” said Alex Eala in her social media post.

The Rafa Nadal Academy scholar also participated at the prestigious Miami Open.

Alex Eala turned professional in 2020.
