Mapua University is hosting a world-class digital skills training for Filipino educators to be conducted by Carnegie Mellon University – Australia (CMU-A).
The pioneering Digital Transformation and Data Analytics Training Program, which is delivered by the Carnegie Mellon University – Australia (CMU-A) and Mapúa University and sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), is presently supporting 80 elite educators from across the Philippines during its first rollout.
The program is a 10-day skills training in digital transformation and data analytics, which began last April 12, 2021, for the first cycle. A subsequent batch will be hosted from May 17 to 28. Modules of the training program include topics on data science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and policy analytics.
The World Economic Forum earlier reported that jobs related to data science and AI are on the rise especially in developing countries like the Philippines. The organization pointed out in their report that developing countries can expect a sharp shortage of employees with skills in digital transformation, as the number of start-ups is expected to rise.
Engr. Rosette Eira E. Camus, director of Mapúa’s Office of International Career and Exchange Programs (ICEP) and lead organizer of the project with CHED and CMU-A, intimated that through the program, the elite educators will create their own sector-focused digital transformation strategy for implementation in their respective institutions upon graduation, eventually creating a local pool of data analytics professionals in the country’s educational system.
Over 100 educators applied for the training program and were screened based on certain criteria by the selection committee from CMU-A. According to CHED, the training program for digital transformation and data analytics was in demand, as interested educator applicants surpassed the program allocation.
The program was proposed to CHED by Mapúa in October 2020 and was then granted funding as the delivering partner institution along with CMU-A, a global leader in artificial intelligence and information technology and management.
Also part of the partnership with CMU-A and CHED, according to Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, President of Mapúa, is the enhancement of its Master in Business Analytics (MAN) program, the country’s first graduate program in the field launched in 2018.
Mapúa is a recognized leader in digital education and online learning in the Philippines, providing the latest in educational technology and enhancing its capability for effective teaching and learning in a digital environment. It has been providing leading-edge training and education in various fields of studies, such as Engineering and Sciences, Architecture and Design, Information Technology, Business and Management, Communication and Media Studies, and Social Sciences and Education.
