Philippines’ Walled City of Intramuros reopens to visitors

The famous Walled City of Intramuros in the Philippines has reopened selected sites to the public with health and safety protocols in place amid the new normal in tourism.

In a press briefing, Intramuros Administrator (IA) chief Guiller Asido formally announced the reopening of Fort Santiago, Baluarte de San Diego, and Casa Manila Museum on February 17, 2021.

Dungeons, Museo ni Rizal, Asean Gardens, and other sites are not yet open until further notice.

Following are the guidelines for Intramuros visitors:

• Guests are required to register their visit on the staysafe.ph app, the nation’s contact tracing program, before entering any site.
• Only visitors from 15 to 65 years old are allowed, consistent with the current Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging and Infectious Diseases (IATF) guidelines.

• The Intramuros administration also announced that the Baluarte San Diego and Casa Manila Museum would be open during its regular operating hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fort Santiago will be open from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
• Entrance fees are ₱75 for adults while students and persons with disability are only charged ₱50. Visitors can pay in cash, via Beep card, or through PayMaya.
• Strict health and safety guidelines will be strictly enforced within the walls of Intramuros.
• Signage and informational materials are installed strategically at high-traffic areas like Palacio del Gobernador, Fort Santiago, Museo de Intramuros, Plaza San Luis, Casa Manila, Baluarte de San Diego, Puerto Real Gardens, Presidents’ Gallery, Plaza Roma, and Plazuela de Sta. Isabel.
