The new Daang Katutubo leading to the View Deck of Nayong Aguilar in Pangasinan is expected to help the Kankanaey, Bago, and Ibaloi groups in Barangay Mapita access more social services while reducing travel time once it is completed.
The completion of the access road project leading to the Mapita Community is expected to boost the growth of tourism, provide economic opportunities, and allow the indigenous people to have better access to basic social services available in more urbanized areas, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar stated in the February 7, 2021, report.
DPWH reported that the 27.6-kilometers road would also reduce the 1 hour travel time of the motorists from the town proper of Aguilar, Pangasinan, to the community to just 30 minutes.
The ongoing construction of the Daang Katutubo is currently at a 64% completion rate.
“The access road project involves the construction of concrete roads, a 120.9-meter bridge, drainage, slope protection, pavement markings, and road safety facilities aimed to be fully serviceable by 2022,” DPWH reported.
More road constructions that boost tourism around the Philippines include the Barangay Malolos-Barili-Kantabugon Road which reduces travel time to Aloguinsan, Cebu’s prime eco-tourism spots from 40 to 15 minutes, and the road access project to Bataan National Park in Central Luzon that is expected to boost sports and adventure tourism.
