The University of London’s Philippine Studies forum at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is going live with an open-access inventory of Philippine treasures found around the world.
The Philippine Studies at SOAS announced on January 5, 2021, the upcoming launch of its new Digital Humanities Archival project that provides the public access to an online inventory of photographic and textual data of Philippine holdings from museums and collections around the world.
The continuing project that aggregates the data in an easy-to-navigate, all-in-one sortable portal will go live on January 15 and will be free to use without passwords or paywalls.
The project will also set up exhibits that incorporate annotations and essays by scholars on selected or various pieces from different museums.
SOAS Project Head and Lead Researcher Cristina Martinez-Juan and Independent Curator, Critic of Political and Art Systems Marian Pastor Roces will provide editorial guidance to contributions to the portal.

Philippine Studies at SOAS is a forum for Philippine–related teaching, research, and cultural production in the UK and Europe established in part by a Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs grant to the Centre for South East Asian Studies in 2017.
In 2019, the forum’s SULAT Masterclass was conducted by Filipino novelist Gina Apostol to help Southeast Asian writers in London.
Also in 2019, a Filipino language course in Philippine Studies started to be offered at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
