The Philippines’ bet, Rowena Lucero Sasuluya of Guiguinto, Bulacan has won 4th Runner-up in the recently concluded Miss Globe pageant held in Tirana, Albania.

Aside from her runner-up finish, Rowena also bagged the People’s Choice Award. The Miss Globe 2020 crown was won by Miss Kosovo Lorinda Kolgeci.

The Pinay pageant contender was appointed by the Miss Globe organization, with the help of Rodgil Flores and Gio Flores of Kagandahang Flores, to represent the Philippines in the international beauty contest when the Binibining Pilipinas team decided to postpone the national pageant due to the ongoing Covid pandemic.

Sasuluya had only five days to prepare for the pageant.

“I would like to grab this opportunity to thank all the pure talent behind my back. Ilalaban natin ang 5 days preparation na ginawa nating umaga ang gabi!” the licensed teacher-turned-beauty queen said on her Instagram post on October 28.

Hours before the coronation night on November 13 (Philippines Time), Sasuluya dedicated her efforts to the Filipino people who were experiencing the wrath of Typhoon Ulysses that time.

“PILIPINAS, YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE,” Sasuluya wrote on her Instagram. “Tonight my country the Philippines suffers a huge destruction of property and loss of lives due to strong typhoon. I know this is a very difficult situation for us after dealing with two consecutive storms… But here we are! Standing and fighting…

”I dedicate this competition to all my countrymen to stay strong and keep the faith that we can survive this trial as we all work together especially with the help and prayers of community of nation across the Globe.”

She also thanked those who supported her pageant journey.

”Salamat sa lahat ng taong sumusuporta umulan man o bumagyo. My heart is filled with so much prayers, love and light to each and every one of you. Kaya natin to… Laban tayo…” Sasuluya added.

During the Question and Answer portion, the Top 5 finalists answered the question: “If you would go back in the past, which moment you would like to relieve?”

Sasuluya responded: “If I would have to go back in time, I would want to relive the moment when everybody is on its normal phase and everybody was just having a normal life.

“What I mean is, I wish we would realize that we shouldn’t taken things for granted just like how things are right now. This would be a simple reminder that we should always appreciate what we have right now and learn from the lesson of the past.”

Rowena Lucero Sasuluya continued the Philippines’ pageant streak at the Albania-based pageant which was started by Maricar Balagtas of Bulacan, the first Asian to win the Miss Globe crown in 2001, and by Anne Lorraine Colis of Pampanga in 2015 after Binibining Pilipinas acquired the franchise.

In 2016, Nicole Marie Manalo finished third runner-up, followed by Nelda Ibe who won first runner-up during the 2017 edition.

Michele Gumabao made it to the Top 15 finalists in 2018, while Leren Bautista secured the second runner-up placement in 2019.

The Miss Globe of Albania is organized by Deliart Association and is different from the Canada-based Miss Globe Group which was joined by Stephanie Ricablanca as the country’s representative.
