THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has warned Filipinos seeking employment abroad against emails stating that they have been selected for employment abroad.
According to POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia, fraudulent individuals or groups send emails using the name of a licensed Philippine recruitment agency hidden from the knowledge of the latter to attract potential victims.
“The email has this standard subject line:
‘ Last 8 slots left for XYZ INTERNATIONAL MANPOWER SERVICES (POEA License No. 1223-3837) for the first 20 applicants for Canada June 2020 Deployment ’
Olalia said, jobs are said to be open to countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
According to Olalia, the target victims are being asked a fee that ranges from P2,800 to P3,600. A reservation fee is to be sent through a remittance company for the alleged mandatory orientation seminar. It will be held at the office of the licensed recruitment agency.
In Addition, jobseekers are also promised high wages, ‘non-payment of placement and processing fees, etc. which are hard to believe.
“Unsolicited job offers through email and social media which requires payment of fees for seminars, documentation, and visa processing and other travel documents is a sure sign of a scam,” he said.
In this regard, Olalia advised applicants to validate the authenticity of the jobs offered to POEA. POEA has its verification system at poea.gov.ph and hotlines 8722-1144 and 8722-1155.
These sc^ammers use the name of verified recruitment agencies. You will think that the email or text message is legit. When you check on the POEA website, you will see that the recruitment agency is listed there.
Many job seekers fall victim to the sc^ammers because they reply to the text or email. They ask if the scammers who contacted them if they are legit. Surely, the scammers would deny your allegation.
To be 100% sure of the legitimacy of the email or text message, contact the agency’s number or email listed on the website.
