- President Duterte is already having the alleged corruption in Philhealth investigated.
- The Palace also persuaded Atty. Keith to cooperate with the investigation.
- Morales, on the other hand, denied the allegations of widespread corruption in the agency.
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered an in-depth investigation into alleged corruption in Philhealth.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirms on Friday.
Some Philhealth officials reportedly resigned after allegedly having a heated argument among agency officials at the Zoom meeting held Thursday night.
One of those who resigned was Atty. Thorsson Montes Keith, anti-fraud legal officer of Philhealth. He even spread the resignation letter on social media wherein Keith accuses some of his colleagues of rampant corruption.
Roque, on the other hand, called on the resigned official to cooperate with the investigation to stop the alleged corruption.
“If he did not do it while inside, let him do it now and say everything he knows as an anti-fraud officer,” said Roque.
Meanwhile, PhilHealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales denied Keith’s allegations. He said the lawyer is vengeful after he refused his promotion.
“Baka ito iyong ganti niya. Parang vengeful, spiteful siya dahil tinanggihan ko siya noon,” said Morales.
In another interview, Morales challenged Keith to release evidence of alleged corruption and not wait until August 31 to resign.
“Gawin na niyang Lunes o ngayon, kasi detrimental na ‘yung ano niya… it would compromise the corporation for him to stay, for him to have access to the resources of the corporation,” the Philhealth President challenged.
Furthermore, The Department of Health (DOH) also issued a statement on the controversy. Health Secretary Francisco Duque says he is disappointed with the reported corruption of some officials and it must be stopped.
“Tama na ang hocus pocus. Maraming Pilipinong may sakit ang umaasa sa tulong na ibinibigay ng PhilHealth. I will ensure that justice will be served to those who defraud the system,” the secretary stated.
