For the second consecutive Summer Olympics, the Philippines has emerged as Southeast Asia’s leading nation, marking 100 years of its participation in the Olympics with an impressive medal haul of two golds and two bronzes at the Paris 2024 Games.
This remarkable achievement marks a significant improvement in the global rankings, with the Philippines climbing 13 spots to secure the 37th position among 205 National Olympic Committees.

Despite the odds, this has been the Philippines’ best Olympic performance to date, a boost from 50th place during Tokyo 2020 and 69th spot in Rio 2016. Moreover, this is also a back-to-back record for the country as Southeast Asia’s best Olympic Team after seizing one gold, two silvers, and one bronze in Tokyo.
The 22-member Philippine delegation wrapped up their campaign in France, standing tall among over 10,500 athletes competing across 32 sports disciplines at the 33rd Olympiad held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

The Filipino athletes brought the country two golds won by world champion gymnast Carlos Yulo in the men’s artistic gymnastics, and two bronzes courtesy of Filipina boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas.
Meanwhile, World No. 2 pole vaulter EJ Obiena almost reached the podium with remarkable improvement from being the 11th placer in Tokyo 2020 to 4th in Paris 2024. Champion golfer Bianca Pagdanganan also finished 4th, a huge jump after ranking 43rd during her Olympic debut in Tokyo four years ago.
