The University of the Philippines College of Law (UP Law) made an impressive showing in the 2022 Bar Examinations, with its graduates sweeping the top 5 honors among nearly four thousand new lawyers.
UP Law dominated the topnotchers with 11 of its examinees in the top 30 list released by the Supreme Court on April 14, 2023. A total of 3,992 of the 9,183 examinees passed the exams, marking a 43.47% passing rate.
UP Law graduate Czar Matthew Gerard Torres Dayday led the pack with the highest overall rating of 88.8083%. He was closely followed by fellow UP graduates:

- Erickson Mariñas (88.77%)
- Christiane Cregencia (87.97%)
- Andrea Yu (87.78%)
- Kim Gia Gatapia (87.43%)
Other UP graduates in the top 30 are:

- Sharlene Ann Joson (15th, 86.58%)
- Luis Gabriel Perez (17th, 86.55)
- Joji Mari Salaver (23rd, 86.24)

The 2022 Bar Examinations, the 120th professional licensure tests for Philippine lawyers, took place on November 9, 13, 16, and 20, 2022, in 14 local testing centers across the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The passing grade was set at 74%.
In addition to UP, other schools that produced topnotchers included Ateneo de Manila University with 9 topnotchers, University of San Carlos with 3, and one each from Angeles University Foundation, Arellano University, Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Manuel L. Quezon University, Mariano Marcos State University, Saint Louis University, and San Beda College Alabang.
The oath-taking and roll signing for the new Bar passers will occur on May 2, 2023, at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City. This year’s Bar Exams marked the second time that the exams were administered digitally using laptops with an exclusive program, as opposed to the traditional pen-and-paper method.
