Philippines National Olympiad in Informatics winners start prep for Hungary

The National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) Philippines has announced its top winners for 2023 from among 30 finalists out of 227 participants competing at Ateneo de Manila University, the first on-site final round since the Covid-19 pandemic began and marking the country’s first step in preparing for the international rounds.

The NOI contest will determine students to represent the Philippines at the 35th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2023) which will be held from August 28 to September 4 in Szeged, Hungary.

NOI Philippines, the premier programming olympiad of the Philippines for high school students, held the finals competition on April 15 and 16 and determined the top 10 winners, Rookie of the Year titles, runner-up winners, and honorable mentions.

The top 10 winners of the NOI Philippines 2023 are as follows:

  1. Raphael Dylan Dalida – Grade 12, Philippine Science High School-Main Campus
  2. John Lloyd Allas – Grade 12, City of San Jose Del Monte National Science High School
  3. Kian Colin Chua – Grade 12, Saint Jude Catholic School
  4. Filbert Ephraim Wu – Grade 11, Victory Christian International School
  5. Jerome Austin Te – Grade 9, Jubilee Christian Academy
  6. Cassidy Kyler Tan – Grade 12, Ateneo de Manila Senior High School
  7. Kei Hang Derek Chan – Grade 11, British School Manila
  8. Raphael Tabingo – Grade 9, Philippine Science High School-Central Luzon Campus
  9. Hans Gabriel De Vera – Grade 10, Philippine Science High School-Main Campus
  10. Jose Mari Paolo Rollan – Grade 11, City of Bogo Senior High School

Rookie of the Year titles were awarded to Jerome Austin Te (Jubilee Christian Academy), with Kei Hang Derek Chan (British School Manila) and Raphael Tabingo (Philippine Science High School-Central Luzon Campus) as runner-ups. Ten students received honorable mentions for their performance during the competition.

Pisay’s Dalida has led the Philippines’ medal haul at the recent IOI rounds, winning bronze in 2022 in Indonesia along with Tan, and another bronze in 2021 in Singapore, showcasing the country’s talent in informatics at the IOI, considered the Olympics of computing for high school students and is one of five international science Olympiads held annually.

The Philippine team is now preparing for the upcoming international competition in Hungary, aiming for continued success on the global stage.
