Safety systems have been set up for air and land travel for the Holy Week in the Philippines, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and InterAgency Council for Traffic (IACT) assured the general public.

In line with the Department of Transportation “Oplan Byaheng Ayos 2023” which aims to ensure that all transportation facilities in the Philippines are prepared for the increase in passenger traffic during the Holy Week holiday, CAAP today, April 5, inspected the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center ahead of the anticipated holiday travel rush, while I-ACT had set up One-Stop-Shop Help Desks since March 30.

Air Travel Safety

The air traffic management inspection in line with CAAP’s Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023 initiative, assessed the readiness of the Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) facilities to handle the expected increase in air traffic, ensuring that all equipment and personnel are operating at peak efficiency to guarantee safe and efficient air travel for passengers.

The inspection was conducted in accordance with international aviation standards and best practices, and the CAAP will continue to closely monitor its operations throughout the Holy Week travel period.

Land Travel Safety

The I-ACT One-Stop-Shop Help Desks have been set up in select terminals around Metro Manila since March 30 and will remain open for service until April 11 from 9 PM to 6 AM every day.

The help desks are manned by operatives of the PCG, PNP-HPG, and local government units to provide passenger assistance to road users, including random inspections at bus terminals, spot inspections, and assessment of the roadworthiness of public vehicles.

I-ACT is coordinating with various agencies such as the PCG, MMDA, LTO, LTFRB, and LGUs to ensure the safety of passengers and smooth traffic flow during the Holy Week rush.

The One-Stop-Shop Help Desks are found in the following areas:

  • Five Star (Montreal)
  • Victory Liner (EDSA SB)
  • DLTB (Buendia Taft, Pasay)
  • Five Star (Pasay Tramo)
  • GV Florida (Lacson, Manila)
  • Victory Liner (Caloocan)

Various groups have been campaigning for travel safety as well as sound environmental practice during the Holy Week, particularly by EcoWaste Coalition which is calling for low-carbon and plastic-free travel and events.
