Dolly de Leon has made Hollywood history as the first Filipino nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globe Awards.
De Leon walked the red carpet as a favorite during the Hollywood awards season with positive reviews of her performance in the Cannes Festival Palme d’Or-winning “Triangle of Sadness”, a film that paid homage to Overseas Filipino Workers.
De Leon and Ruben Stlund, the director of “Triangle of Sadness,” arrived a few days before the 80th Golden Globes to attend events in Hollywood.
Prior to the awards ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton on January 10, 2023, de Leon said in media interviews that although she had been nominated for a Golden Globe, it wasn’t the “be-all and end-all” of her life or career.
De Leon said she is aware of how her success has increased Filipinos’ visibility and respect, but for her, the most important thing is to keep working to improve both as an actress and a person.

Dolly de Leon and fellow nominees Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Carey Mulligan (She Said), and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) vied for the Best Supporting Actress award which eventually went to Bassett.
The Golden Globes heralds the formal start of the Hollywood awards season and will be followed by the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February and the Oscars in March.
Dolly de Leon is also the first Filipino to get the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s Best Supporting Actor award for the same film.
The FAMAS-winning actress will next appear in “Dirty Linen”, a brand-new ABS-CBN series.
Filipino-Americans who previously earned Golden Globe nominations include Darren Criss who eventually won Best Actor for “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” and musician H.E.R. who won Best Original Song for “Judas and the Black Messiah”.
