Following the onslaught of Typhoon Agaton in the Visayas over the Holy Week, members of the Cebu City Jail Male Dormitory (CCJMD) lent relief assistance to the evacuees of several Barangays in Baybay, Leyte.
One hundred families from the far-flung areas of Higoloan, Cambungan, Gubang, and Bobon, were able to benefit from the initiative of the CCJMD, where jail officers handed out 100 sets of kitchen tools including portable stoves, butane canisters, and dining wares. These cooking essentials address the food preparation needs of struggling typhoon survivors in evacuation centers.
In a Facebook post on April 25, 2022, the CCJMD headed by Jail Supt. Jose Rusylvi Abueva said they wanted to ensure the welfare of the typhoon survivors by providing them with the necessities essential for daily living. The post also said that Jail Officers of CCJMD want the best for every family in the community, particularly the victims of unprecedented calamities, like Typhoon Agaton, that usually hit the country. Moreover, the CCJMD also promised to continue their way of giving back to the community by helping those in dire need.
The conduct of the said community service towards the victims of typhoon Agaton is another successful charity cause under AMUMA— the name of the platform where jail officers pay forward to extend their assistance to the less unfortunate individuals or communities.
This is not the first time the Cebu City Jail had done a good deed in AMUMA’s name. The same group was also among the front liners and distributed donations when typhoon Odette hit several areas of Cebu last December, where 409 casualties were recorded.
AMUMA is one among several donation drives where one can send assistance to Agaton survivors. For those interested, you may check the following channels through which you can arrange a partnership for the same cause:
