De La Salle University Manila (DLSU Manila) student Henrico Gustav Mikhail Sanchez has bagged third place in the 11th Ernst & Young (EY) Young Tax Professional of the Year competition in Dubai.

Sanchez represented EY Global Delivery Services (GDS) professionals from Argentina, India, and the Philippines in the global final, finishing third out of the top 10 finalists.

The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) student competed amongst 43 national winners from 62 countries in the international competition with a theme centered on sustainability.

This year’s first-place winner was Urja Maloo from India, while Italy’s Matteo Lamaro won second place in the prestigious tilt for young tax professionals around the world.

Now in its 11th year, the global final of the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year (YTPY) competition was held in Dubai from February 20 to 23, 2022. This year’s finalists presented their ideas on how tax can help to incentivize sustainability across the business world.

The finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges including various EY leaders and Clodagh Power from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Centre for Tax Policy Administration.

Out of the 43 country winners, EY’s prestigious panel of judges, which included senior Tax VPs from large multinationals and representatives from tax authorities, selected the top 10 to compete in the final round.

The EY Young Tax Professional of the Year competition is an international competition designed to reward and foster the next generation of tax leaders.

The DLSU student team’s landslide risk assessment application was named the sole representative of the Philippines in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Space Apps Challenge Global Finals last year.
