When an Arizona grandmother inadvertently invited an unknown teen to a Thanksgiving celebration by sending a text to the wrong number, she had no idea she was about to expand her family. Jamal, the teen, and Wanda, the grandmother, have already celebrated their third Thanksgiving together, and this article will explain how it all began.
This lovely tradition began in 2016 when Jamal Hinton received a message from Wanda Dench inviting him and his girlfriend to spend Thanksgiving with her. “Please let me know if you’ll be there,” she wrote in the text.
Hinton suspected she had dialed the wrong number and asked Wanda to send him a photo as proof that the text was sent by his grandmother. Wanda’s image depicted a blonde woman with glasses, and she was most emphatically not Jamal’s grandmother. Jamal, on the other hand, asked if he could still join her for the holiday after informing her of the mishap.
Wanda was unconcerned, and the teen eagerly visited her family. They quickly became friends, stayed in touch over the next year, and have already celebrated three Thanksgiving in a row together.
Wanda believes that family is more than blood ties; it is the people you want to spend time with. And we wholeheartedly agree with her.
