The last time the Lawrie family witnessed the birth of a baby girl was in 1809. They had no idea that they would have to wait another 200 years to see another baby girl born into the family.
Little Myla Lawrie was the first baby girl born in the Lawrie family in over 200 years when she was born in October 2014.
Hannah and Mark Lawrie never imagined such a day would come because Mark’s family had never had a girl born in five generations.
Mark’s great-great Aunt Bessie was born in the same year as Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln, and Edgar Allan Poe, so it’s been a while since his family had a girl.
As a result, when they married, Mark warned Hannah that they were more likely to have sons than daughters. “When Mark and I first met, he told me how everyone in his family had produced boys for five generations,” Hannah told the Daily Mail.
“He warned me that the chances of us ever having a daughter were pretty remote,” she said.
Nonetheless, Hannah remained hopeful that they would be able to have a daughter.
She became pregnant with their first child in 2012, but no one was surprised when Mason, a boy now seven years old, was born.
Mark has two other sons from his previous marriage, 14-year-old Ben and 11-year-old Zac.
Hannah became pregnant for the second time in 2014, and the 200-year spell was finally broken!
At the 20-week scan, the couple learned that they were expecting a girl.
“I was in a state of disbelief. I kept asking the sonographer if she was sure,” Hannah said.
“Mark was so emotional he was in tears, crying that it was a gift from his Dad who, sadly, passed away just before I fell pregnant. He’d told us he’d love a granddaughter,” she added.
Baby Myla is treated like a princess, as expected, and she has an amazing wardrobe to prove it.
To match her outfits, the little girl has dozens of frilly pink tutus, flowery dresses, butterfly hair clips, and fluffy slippers.
Of course, Little Myla now has nothing to worry about because she has a whole swarm of princes to protect her!
