The Philippines’ national bowling team has bagged two bronze medals in the 2021 International Bowling Federation (IBF) Super World Championships in Dubai, ending the country’s 15-year medal drought in the international competition.

Filipino bowlers earned bronze in both the men’s and women’s team events, marking the country’s first podium finish since world champion Biboy Rivera won gold in 2006.

The country’s recent double bronze medal haul placed 10th in the final medal rankings of the IBF championship which was held from November 6 to 15, 2021.

“It has been a long time since the Philippine Men and Ladies Teams have had a medal at the World Championships. It is extra special to have won it at the same time. Bronze feels like Gold!” Philippine national men’s team head coach Biboy Rivera said in a Facebook post.

Filipino bowler Merwin Tan ended the Philippines’ 7-year wait for a gold medal at the 20th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships.

The country’s para-athletes in bowling bagged the overall Silver podium finish at the 2019 World Para Bowling Tour leg held in Manila.
