Filipino komiks character Alexandra Trese will soon be released as a Funko Pop collectible vinyl figure for fans of the Netflix show based on the hit comic book series based on Philippine mythology.
“Trese”, which was first released as a graphic novel series in 2005, is set in a fictional version of the Philippines where mythological beings live amongst humans. The novel series was recently rereleased by ABLAZE Publishing and adapted into a Netflix Original Anime.
The collectible toy based on the heroine of the award-winning Filipino graphic novel by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisim will be available in two variants, including a regular colored figure and a limited edition “Black and White Chase” figure which is part of a six-piece bundle of “Trese” Pops.
The figures will be released under Funko’s POP! Comics line, which previously produced iconic comic book characters such as Archie, Garfield, and Hellboy.
“We’re ecstatic that Funko has collaborated with us to bring this fan-favorite comic character into the Pop! multiverse. Trese fans have been clamoring for a Trese Pop! for many years now,” said Jacob Cabochan, co-owner of Filbar’s, the Philippines’ oldest chain of comic and collectibles stores.
The photo release of the Alexandra Trese toy shows both versions of her vinyl figures wielding her Sinag magical dagger, Trese’s twin sister who had died at birth.
“Early on, a lot of fans started to make their own custom Trese Pop! figures. It’s great to finally have the official figure which will provide protection from Aswang…well, maybe it will,” said Trese writer and co-creator Budjette Tan in a news release shared by Filbar’s on Facebook.
“This is for the fans who have always wished for their own little Trese figure,” added Trese artist and co-creator Kajo Baldisimo. “May it constantly remind them of the magic of the comics.”
The “Trese” Funko Pops will be sold exclusively at Philippine comic book retailer Filbar’s stores and online starting November 27, 2021.
Headquartered in Everett, Washington, Funko is a leading pop culture consumer products company. Funko has also produced several Pop! figures based on Filipino icons including fast food mascot Jollibee, comics superheroine Darna, and Hollywood’s top Filipino American comedian Jo Koy.
Japanese brand Uniqlo earlier released a limited-edition tote bag featuring Alexandra Trese and the series’ beloved “Kambal” Crispin and Basilio.
