Pinay OFW inherits more than Php25M in assets from late employers.

A former domestic worker in Hong Kong, Daisy Bucad-Eng is now a millionaire. She inherited Php 25 million from her late employers.

Bucad-Eng is raised in Mountain Province and married at the early age of 16 and had a kid. To make the ends meet she sells salt in Besao, Mt. Province.

In the October 10, 2021 she said, “Yung mga taga-Benguet ba talagang matakaw sila sa asin. Kasi isa pa, sa mga baboy nila, sa mga baka.” She ears Php100-300/day from selling salt.

Unlucky on her first attempt as a domestic worker in Hong Kong, she states “Hindi ko na nakayanan. Dalawang oras lang ang tulog mo, tatlong oras. Kukulangin iyon, e.”

Meanwhile, because she was far away from the children, Daisy discovered that they often went to pick up trash on the street, sometimes even sleeping in the jeep.

When she learned this “Pumasok ako sa ilalim ng lamesa doon ako umiyak.”

She finally met an old Portuguese named Marie. She is paid HK$900 or PHP 2,700 per month but still, Daisy is happy because her boss treats her well as her own family.

When Daisy decided to go back to the Philippines, Marie went with her.

Until Marie died in the Philippines in 2002. Daisy said, “Wala na pala. Yung puso niya lumobo.”

Daisy served Marie for eleven years.

Marie’s remains were sent back to Hong Kong by relatives. One day, a letter was sent to Daisy that changed her fate.

It was Marie’s last will, Daisy was among her heirs. One of these is an apartment worth 25 million PHP.

Well-treated kami doon.”

She used to think, “Totoo ba to?’ Parang may katotohanan na nga ito.”

When Daisy received the inheritance, she built a five-story building with a penthouse in Mountain Province. Her penthouse features a gym and rental space for commercial facilities and event venue rentals.

She now owns a five-story building, land, a house, and even jewelry and money.

In memory of Marie, she made a memorial statue part of the penthouse.

“Sobrang mahal ko siya. Imagine siya ba naman ang nagbago ng kapalaran mo.”

“Marie Augusta Ramchand,” the epitaph reads.

Daisy also shared Marie’s advice for her while she was still alive.

She says he’ll never forget it, and she promises Marie, “I will do my best to do and to live and be the person that you want me to be.”

She said he believes Marie is happy now, “I’m very sure you are so lucky looking at your legacy.”

“Super talaga yung saya ngayon sa binigay ni Madam Marie. Maraming naitulong sa aking pamilya.”

Daisy offered advice to overseas Filipino workers, “Sa mga OFW naghihirap kayo ngayon, patience, and hard work are the key to success.”
