The Philippine obstacle course racing team has swept the gold and silver medals in the male and female divisions of the first World’s Highest Obstacle Race (OCR) on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa.
Team Philippines dominated the inaugural Altitude OCR World Championships and competed amongst athletes from 26 countries in the race held from September 12 to 21, 2021.
Members of the Pilipino Obstacle Sports Foundation (POSF) Elias Tabac and Sandi Abahan won gold, while Tolitz Divina and Seannah Gutang bagged silver in the event.
The Altitude OCR World Championships brought together fitness enthusiasts from around the world for a chance to conquer Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the Seven Summits and the world’s tallest freestanding mountain.
International participants tested their mental and physical strength in the world’s highest obstacle course challenge held at the summit of Kilimanjaro in September. Competitors crawled, moved, and climbed through ten iconic obstacles spread over 100 meters in the crater, according to the event website.
Filipino racer Elias Tabac who hails from Davao del Norte and bagged gold in Kilimanjaro, is now set to compete in Nevada, U.S.A for another international obstacle race.
The first Asian Obstacle Course Race Championships were hosted by the Philippines in 2018.
Emergency medical technician and triathlete Oreo Puncia, the first Filipino male to cross the Ultraman Florida, once again raced for a purpose last year on his 34th birthday to support frontline workers and commuters in the Philippines.
