Filipino golfer Miguel Tabuena won his first professional golf tournament in the United States after claiming the 2021 Idaho Open title at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Boise, Idaho.
Tabuena fired a 3-round total of 14-under-par, with an aggregate score of 196, to capture the Idaho Open crown by four strokes on American Brad Marek on September 19.
The event was part of the PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Rocky Mountain Section, with Tabuena looking forward to bigger events in the hopes of earning a Korn Ferry Tour card and a crack at the PGA Tour.
The 26-year-old Tabuena was a silver medalist in the 2010 Asian Games and a two-time Asian Tour winner.
Yuka Saso earlier this year became the first Filipina winner of the US Women’s Golf Open Championship.
Carlo Biado recently became the first Filipino in 27 years to win the US Open Pool Championship since Efren Bata Reyes won in 1994.
