Filipino tennis champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala has moved up 37 places in the World Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings to a new career-best position.

Eala, who turned 16 years old last week, is now ranked 624th by the WTA while keeping her spot at No. 3 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings.

The Filipina ace entered the top 1000 in the Women’s Tennis Association World Ranking earlier this year and has steadily upped her position after her sterling performances.

The teen sensation rose in the latest rankings following a runner-up finish in the W25 Platja D’Aro tournament held in Spain on May 22, 2021.

Eala and Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva ousted top seeds Sofya Lansere and Vlada Koval of Russia, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10, in the quarterfinals of the event.

The mixed nationality duo advanced to the doubles final of the ITF World Tennis Tour W25 Platja D’Aro and fell to Lithuanian Ustina Mikulskyte and Romanian Oana Georgeta Simion, 3-6, 5-7.

Alex Eala has won several international championships including the 2020 Australian Open junior girls’ doubles title with Indonesian tennis partner Priska Nugroho and her first professional title at the 2021 Women’s Singles W15 Manacor in Spain.

Eala is vying for another Grand Slam title in the 2021 French Open juniors tournament slated in June.
