Filipino teacher Marcelo Otinguey of the Cordillera Region has won the prestigious Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) presented to outstanding educators from all over Southeast Asia.
Otinguey, Head Teacher V of the Governor Bado Dangwa Agro-Industrial School in Benguet, was named among the recipients of the 4th Princess Maha Chakri Awards instituted to commemorate Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday in Thailand.
The Department of Education – Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd-CAR) congratulated the Filipino teacher for winning the royal award via Facebook on June 10, 2021.
“SALUTE TO YOU SIR! DepEd CAR congratulates Mr. Marcelo T. Otinguey of the Schools Division of Benguet for winning this year’s Princess Maha Chakri International Award for Outstanding Teachers!” DepEd wrote.
The international award is offered once in two years to teachers from eleven Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN and Timor Leste) to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and achievements that improve the education system.
The PMCA organization recognized Otinguey and other award recipients for changing students’ lives and making significant contributions to education.
The 50-year-old Filipino teacher graduated with a Bachelor of Secondary Education from Benguet State University and Master of Arts in Education-General from Baguio Central University.
The PMCA also cited Otinguey for obtaining the “Certification of Recognition as School Brigada Eskwela Coordinator by the Deped Cordillera, and the Certificate of Appreciation by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) on the video produced for the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Teach On: Keeping the Passion Alive.”
Filipino public school teachers who recently received recognition include Noemi Baysa who was earlier recognized by an international organization for her online publication called Project I Commit to Global Citizenship Education through Online Newspaper or “PIGEON”, and two public school teachers from Northern Mindanao (Region X) and the National Capital Region (NCR) awarded for their exemplary work in STEM education for K-12 students.
