The crowdsourcing efforts of non-profit groups Escuela Taller de Filipinas, BeSeekLeta for EveryJuan, and Bambike are building bikes for Filipino heritage conservation workers to continue their work amid the ongoing public health crisis.
The “Pamana Wheels Project” mover Escuela Taller de Filipinas Foundation, Inc. (ETFFI) announced on June 9, 2021, that they are in need of spare bicycle parts to assemble bike units for their heritage workers.
“Heritage means jobs. Support our heritage conservation workers in their livelihoods and in saving our pamana for future generations!” Escuela Taller wrote on its Facebook account.
Partner organization BeSeekLeta for EveryJuan (BFEJ) will rebuild and refurbish new bikes from the donated parts. The group was established during the pandemic to provide free bikes and helmets to working-class Filipinos affected by the nationwide quarantine.
The Pamana Wheels Project is in need of the following:
- bike frame and fork
- wheel set
- interior and exterior tubes
- handle bars
- break pads and levers
- chains
Contact the Escuela Taller Foundation’s official Facebook page to send your bicycle parts. The organization also welcomes donations of complete bike units.
The Escuela Taller de Filipinas Foundation Inc. is a vocational school located at the Revellin de Recoletos in Intramuros and Maribojoc, Bohol, that trains out-of-school youth to become the protectors of the Philippines’ cultural heritage structures through practical courses.
Filipino champion triathlete Romeo “Oreo” Puncia earlier teamed up with BeSeekLeta for EveryJuan to support frontline workers and commuters in the Philippines with bicycles as alternative means of transport amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
More Filipinos are riding their bikes to work as a convenient and environment-friendly alternative to public transport, boosting calls for a more bike-friendly Philippines.
Bambike’s handcrafted bamboo bikes are boosting tourism, providing sustainable livelihood, and helping the island province of Guimaras in its advocacy to become the ‘Bike Paradise of the Philippines.’
