Filipino tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala and her Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva have advanced to the French Open Girls’ Doubles quarterfinals with a dominant win of their Round 2 match.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament’s top-seeded pair displayed their skills as they routed ITF No. 14 Sofia Costoulas of Belgium and ITF No. 38 Laura Hietaranta of Finland, 6-3, 6-1, in their Round 2 match on June 8, 2021, at the Roland-Garros court in Paris, France.

The 16-year-old Eala (ITF Junior No. 3) and 18-year-old Selekhmeteva (ITF Junior No. 10) previously swept their Round 1 match against opponents from Belarus and Russia.

The Filipino-Russian tandem is campaigning for another shot at a championship title after their finalist podium finish at the W25 Platja D’Aro meet in Spain last May.

Rafa Nadal Academy scholar Alex Eala is hoping to earn another Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open Doubles Champion along with partner Priska Nugroho of Indonesia.

The Filipino teen tennis champion has been honing her skills in the professional circuit with her first pro singles championship win in January at the W15 Manacor and succeeding women singles games.

Eala and Selekhmeteva will play the quarterfinals against the winner of the match between the 5th-seeded pair of Serbia’s Petra Marcinko and Hungary’s Natalia Szabanin and the unseeded pair of Czech Republic’s Barbora Palicova and Canada’s Annabelle Xu.
