Hollywood comedian Jo Koy stars in Filipino-American nurse sitcom “Josep”

Hollywood comedian Jo Koy is starring as a Filipino-American nurse in “Josep”, a new sitcom that is currently in development at the United States television network, ABC.

Jo Koy is the titular protagonist and will also executive produce the comedy series.

“Josep” is described as a comedy following “Josep (Jo Koy), a hard-working nurse trying to navigate dating, fatherhood, and the hilarious complications caused by his strong-willed Filipino mother moving in with him”.

Jo Koy excitedly announced the news to his followers via Instagram on May 27, 2021.

“Excited to show you all what we’re working on over at @abcnetwork #filipinofamily,” Jo Koy wrote.

Variety reports that the half-hour comedy is written and executive produced by showrunner Steve Joe, Michael Golamco, Randall Park, with executive producer Hieu Ho. Joe Meloche is executive producing as well as Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar for Kasdan’s production company The Detective Agency.

The Netflix star, who is well-known for his Filipino culture-centric humor, is also starring in the film “Easter Sunday” based on his own stand-up comedy and life experiences.

Jo Koy recently published his tale of Filipino American success in Hollywood in the book, “Mixed Plate”.
