Binibining Pilipinas 2020/2021 candidate Samantha Bernardo of Palawan has earned the privilege to represent the Philippines in the 8th edition of the Miss Grand International (MGI) pageant in Bangkok in March.

The Thailand-based beauty pageant officially announced on February 5, 2021, that Bernardo is the Miss Grand Philippines 2020 and will represent the country in the competition slated on March 27.

“Miss Grand Philippines 2020 is Samantha Bernardo, an empowered woman from the Philippines’ Last Frontier, Palawan,” MGI said on its Facebook post.

Samantha’s MGI profile also had the following details:
“She stands 5 feet 8 1/2 inches tall and has a body measurement of 36-23-37. She finished a degree in Hospitality Management, where she happily serves, interacts and listens to different stories from across the globe.

“She was a competitive rhythmic gymnast for 9 years and represented her province in National Competitions. Aside from sports, she is a cultural performer and a former President of Sining Palawan Dance Troupe that showcases Philippine tradition through folk dances. She has also worked as a professional model and an entrepreneur who owns and runs her clothing company. Her heart to serve fuels her competitive spirit and determination to excel in her field.

“Samantha is a Philippine Movement Against Malaria volunteer and Spokesperson, a movement that aims for a malaria-free Philippines by 2030. Samantha understands that this period in our history, in this time of a pandemic, the war has already shifted from armed conflict to a war against hunger and for better healthcare.”

The Pinay pageant contender who joined the Binibining Pilipinas twice, in 2018 and again in 2019 when she won second runner-up, said in her statement to ABS-CBN News that it is a privilege to be finally given the opportunity to represent the Philippines in an international pageant arena.

“I always believe that everything has its own timing,” the 27-year-old Filipina pageant candidate said. “Thank you so much, Binibining Pilipinas family. It’s an honor and privilege to represent our country at Miss Grand International. I hope the whole Philippines will support me in this journey as I finally represent our country. All I can say is that, finally, this is me realizing my dream.”

It could be recalled in one of her Instagram stories a month ago, the model and entrepreneur said that she joined the Binibining Pilipinas for the third and last time to take home the Miss Grand International crown.

The Philippines has won several runner-up titles in Miss Grand International, with Nicole Cordoves winning first runner-up in 2016.

Furthermore, Samantha Bernardo’s predecessor, Samantha Ashley Lo of Cebu City aced the online voting for swimsuit and national costume competition when she represented the Philippines at the 2019 edition of Miss Grand International held in Venezuela.

Binibining Pilipinas resumed its pageant season this first quarter of 2021 after the postponement of its 2020 activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
