The Zamboanga Valientes MLV team has made history as the first-ever Philippine team to win in the Champions League Basketball (CLB) in Bendigo City, Australia.

The Valientes ruled the CLB 3×3 Elite Men’s finals on January 9, 2021, after defeating the Clippers, 21-12, in Bendigo Stadium.

It was the second straight victory for the Zamboanga players led by Barangay Tumaga native Chris “Peng” Concepcion, who also topped the 3×3 Christmas Street Hustle held in Canberra, Australia last year.

Completing the team are Melbourne-based Eric Miraflores, Sudanese-Australian Duom Dawan, and Adam Kempton.

The Valientes, the only Asian team that entered, earlier bested three Australia teams and an African selection to win the Hustle crown.

The 3X3 Australia Family officially welcomed the professional basketball team from the Philippines on New Year’s Eve, becoming the first homegrown squad to play in the official CLB 3 on 3 championship league which is the biggest in Australia and New Zealand.

The Valientes is a professional FIBA3x3 Filipino basketball team that was part of the first professional Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 League.

The Gilas Pilipinas Men’s Basketball National Team is currently campaigning for a slot in the FIBA Asia Cup.
