Have you seen the Philippines’ first double-decker elevated highway? If you have not been out on the road because of the coronavirus pandemic, you can check out the new Skyway 3 video on YouTube.
Filipino multinational San Miguel Corporation (SMC) posted the Skyway 3 video on January 5, 2020, showing the double-decker roads made by Filipino engineers and construction workers.
“This double-decker portion of our Skyway 3 — from Plaza Dilao to Tomas Claudio bridge in Pandacan, Manila — is a first in the Philippines and proof of the world-class skills and talent of our Filipino engineers and construction personnel,” SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang posted his praises on social media as he shared the YouTube video of Skyway 3.
“There are two other such sections on Skyway 3, at Araneta before Quezon Avenue, and Roosevelt at Sgt. Rivera Street. This engineering solution was conceptualized and implemented to address space constraints. Indeed, we can do great things together,” added the SMC official.
The 18-kilometer road network of the Skyway 3 linking Southern Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) was finally completed after delays brought on by the pandemic. It is scheduled to officially open on January 14, 2021, after being partially opened in late December 2020.
Skyway 3 was built as an alternative to Metro Manila’s EDSA Highway and is expected to cut travel time to the following:
- SLEX to NLEX will take 20 minutes, from the previous three hours
- Magallanes to Balintawak will take about 15 minutes
- Balintawak to NAIA will take only 15 minutes
- Valenzuela to Makati will take just 10 minutes
SMC also pioneered the Philippines’ first recycled plastics road found in Cavite.
