Filipino tennis champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala has opened her 2021 season campaign with a strong victory at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s World Tennis Tour W15 Manacor and is moving on to Round 2 of the tourney in Spain.

The ITF Junior No. 3 tennis player from the Philippines dominated her Italian opponent Anna Paradisi, 6-1, 6-2, in the Round 1 match played on the hardcourt of Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar on January 19, 2021 (January 20 Philippine Time).

The 15-year-old Eala now moves on to the second round of the tourney and is scheduled to play against 21-year-old Seone Mendez of Australia on January 21 (January 22 PH Time).

Alex Eala entered the ITF Manacor tournament as a Main Draw Junior Reserve player by virtue of her being in the ITF Top 100 Junior Ranking. As of the January 18, 2021 rankings, the No. 2-ranked junior tennis champion is ranked 1187th in the WTA Singles Ranking and 1651st on ITF Singles Ranking.

The W15 Manacor tournament has a prize pot of $15,000 and will run until January 24.

In 2020, Alex Eala achieved two historic feats – the first Filipina to win the Australian Open Junior Doubles title (with Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho) and the first to reach the semifinals of the French Open Girls Singles, a performance that propelled her to World Junior No. 2 rank.
